Project of assistance to the development of the project of the municipality of Sbeitla for the registration of the archaeological site, remain of the ancient Sufetula, on the Tunisian indicative list of the candidate sites for the World Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO) ranking.
Within the agreement of cooperation signed between the Provence Region and the Kasserine governorate in Tunisia, and the actions of cooperation carried out between the city of Arles and the city of Sbeitla on enhancement of the Mediterranean heritage of common interest (Roman and Byzantine sites and mosaics), the Alliance of Euro-mediterranean Cultural Cities, – one of which is the city of Arles – wishes to put its skills and tools at the service of the city of Sbeitla. The aim of this project is to guide this community in the implementation of new urban practices to improve the management, exploitation, protection and sustainable development of its heritage.
To achieve this goal, AVEC will organize all along the year 2017, professional meetings between representatives of the city of Sbeitla, the representatives of the National Institute of Tunisian heritage, owner of the archaeological site of Sbeitla, and its member cities. The latter are represented by Mayors and Deputy Mayors delegated for Heritage or Culture, the Heritage Service managers and Tourist Office directors who can mobilize to share their expertise and experiences.
These meetings should lead to the implementation of a quality approach, based on the repository Qualicities, to improve the heritage policy of the community and engage in dialogue with the Tunisian Government to obtain, ultimately, for the archaeological site, remain of the ancient Sufetula, its registration on the indicative list of World heritage in Tunisia.
