From the 7th to 9th November 2018, the members of the AVEC met for the Board of Administrators 2018 in the city of Mértola in Portugal.
As a long-standing member, Mértola has already welcomed several meetings of the AVEC Network. Located in the southern part of Portugal, close to the spanish border, this historical city reveals Alentejo’s cultural and natural riches. As a reknowned cultural city, its heritage enhancement led the municipality to submit a nomination proposal for Portugal’s UNESCO World Heritage tentitative list.
This Board of Administrators intented to report the actions carried in the framework of numerous 2018 projects, from the Triennal convention with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the “Shared Heritages” project supported by the Région Sud – Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, and the Flood Resilient Museums project led in partnership with the French Ministry of Ecology. Thanks to the renewed support of its partners, the AVEC network will keep developing these projects as part of the 2019 development strategy.
After the meeting, a workshop session offered an opportunity for an exchange of good practices nurtured by the presentations of Mértola (Portugal), Tavira (Portugal) and Tours (France). Finally, the members visited Mértola’s historical city center and (re) discover the Portuguese cultural heritage. Once again, this meeting contributed to enrich the network’s inventory of good practices strengthening its expertise.
