Redacted in 2000 by the member cities of the Alliance of Euro-mediterranean Cultural Cities, the Euro-mediterranean Charter of cultural cities and territories is a text of commitment, opened for signature to any territory which wants to join the AVEC network, setting out the foundations of the network which are:
• An heritage, source of identity and history
• A living heritage
• Everyone’s heritage built by everybody
• Meeting points and places for a shared culture
• Guarantors of viable development
The Charte expresses the AVEC members’ will to make the local heritage an engine for economic, cultural and social development, integrate harmoniously the innovative in what already exists and exchange around values held by heritage and culture.
Articulating around 5 articles, it guides cities and territories in the implementation of new practices for the preservation and enhancement of their heritages.
